Three Qualities That Break the Work Rut
It’s a cloudy morning, but I’m excited because I have another discovery call coming up.
We exchange niceties and then dive right in. I hear some familiar phrases:
“I’m not sure I’m in the right place”
“I’m feeling less motivated”
“I’m not sure how to figure out the next steps”
These are statements I hear every week. All of them are variations on:
“Something needs to change, but I don’t know how”
It could be a career pivot, the dream of building their own business, or rebuilding their confidence in a new role.
Coaching is tailored to each person, but three universal qualities fuel it.
These are the 3 qualities I talk about in my discovery calls because anyone can understand them, no matter their familiarity with coaching.
First of all, we generate clarity by rapidly surfacing what’s most important to you.
Clarity is important because there’s so much noise. Not just in Tech as a whole, but inside your own noggin. We are taking on so much day to day, and the struggle to keep up is almost universal. Trying to make a decision with this amount of noise is pointless.
When you find clarity—in the form of goals or obstacles—you can focus. Making the first determined moves in one particular direction. Without this focus, you only have aspirations.
Finally, we build momentum. This is ignited through clarity and focus, but accelerated by the accountability of a coaching partnership. You know someone is waiting to hear how things are going; someone who has your back, regardless. You’ve told them what’s good and what sucks, and you both know what needs to happen next.
Without accountability, you are on your own; struggling without feedback.
I see these qualities come online for people each week. They are essential, regardless of what you’re trying to achieve.
My job is to plug you into each of them so that they can become the engines that drive forward the next phase of your career.
Without clarity, there’s only noise.
Without focus, there’s only aspiration.
Without momentum, there’s just stagnation.
